Warwickshire County Council is providing cash to make the famous Sikh Mission Resource Centre in Nuneaton more energy efficient.
In response to the urgent problem of climate change, the Warwickshire County Council has allocated £1 million to the Green Shoots Community Climate Change Fund.
Green Shoots has granted £25,000 to Shri Guru Tegh Bahadhur Gurdwara, on behalf of the Nuneaton Sikh Mission Resource Centre, to install new insulation in the building’s ceilings and walls.
Nuneaton, Bedworth, and North Warwickshire residents of all religions and none are welcome at the Sikh Mission Resource Centre. The center has been open for many years and is known for its many services and activities, including a popular day care, music, language, and numeracy classes for children and adults, a fitness center with free weights and cardio machines, and a Digital Club that teaches adults how to make the most of their digital devices.
The current Resource Centre building has no insulation in the form of wall voids or ceiling insulation. since of this, the structure is energy inefficient and subject to widespread damp since heat is escaping in all directions.
All of the walls and the ceiling will be insulated thanks to the Green Shoots grant money. The projected savings over a decade amounts to over £58,000 thanks to a 40% reduction in heat loss. The savings on heating costs will be re-invested in the center’s programs, allowing for the expansion of several of them in the future years.
“This is another fantastic high-value Nuneaton-based project that we were happy to fund through our Green Shoots funding,” said Cllr Heather Timms, Portfolio Holder for Environment, Climate, and Culture.
This initiative will not only reduce the Centre’s carbon footprint, but it will also help them save money, allowing them to invest those savings into expanding the important work they perform in the community.
